Trades Norwest has expanded our innovative program to include Year 10 in 2016. The program for Year 10 will support students as they experience different trades through our Trade Taster program to be well informed to decide on the right trades career by the end of Term 4.
Students will not be able to get a ROSA if they leave school before finishing Year 12, but we plan for all students to complete Year 12 so they are well equipped to meet the career demands of the future.
The program is designed to meet the needs of young people for whom an academic exam-focussed learning environment is not appropriate. The program will cover the main Key Learning Areas of English, Science, Maths, Human Society and its Environment, Techonological and Applied Studies and PDHPE (including a Fitness program), and trade taster opportunities.
The Year 10 class groups are small with an anticipated maximum size of about 18 students. The students will be guided in developing their ability to engage with our self-directed learning program and will spend part of most days in classes blended with the seniors in Years 11 and 12. The Year 10 teachers will continue to monitor their students during these sessions. Students will still meet with their dedicated Year 10 teacher for the morning session each day.
The College plans to have a maximum of 2 class groups in Year 10 so early application is advised. Students may still join the College in Year 11.
